Snapshots

Snapshots are abinary image of the entire root (lv_current) disk partition

This includes:

  • File system, with customized files

  • System configuration (interfaces, routing, hostname)

  • Softwareblade configurations

  • Management Database

Gaia snapshots are like ISO images

The Gaia Portal and the CLI on the SMS can be used to manage (create, export, import delete) snapshots

The SmartConsole and the Gaia portal are two different things. It can be reached via web browser and the IP of the Management Server

System Backup

System Backups don't include everything on the disk. It only contains configurations. The process of restoring from a backup is much faster than restoring from snapshots

Files/configurations can also be excluded from backup's

Monitoring Hardware Health

  • Major releases introduce new functionalities and innovative technologies

  • Minor releases provide new features and stability fixes
